Baseball Glove Repair

Spalding "The Franchise" 42 5115 Baseball Glove

This glove was given to me to by someone that just wanted me to see if I could make it look good again. Another glove I think that dates around the late '70s to early/mid 80's? Simply a request to restore a glove for purely nostalgic reasons...there is no intent to play with this glove ever again.

This glove's leather was very dry and the laces were rock hard. The finger laces were typically stretched out, never really tightened I bet. They were hard as rock too from being so dried out.

There was only one break to fix, which was in the web. But I replaced the finger laces and all of the web lacing just to make the glove look better. Other than that, a lot of conditioning...that's what this glove required.

One repair job I couldn't do was fix the inside of the glove, which was all deteriorated. This comes from no cleaning and conditioning, spitting in your glove, neatsfoot oil, sweat, etc. It's important to try to keep that inner palm area nice too so it doesn't end up like this glove's insides. It wasn't a big deal because the guy wasn't concerned about the inside anyway.

Incidentally, this glove was originally a lighter color..so the color change after conditioning, although pretty nice, was not as dramatic as many gloves. However, the glove looks and feels so much different...and I'm sure the guy will be surprised how good the glove looks again. The conditioner is not completely soaked in yet in these pictures, but it will be...over time.
